“To whomever happens to read this letter; I want to thank you, and I also want to warn you.”
The contents of this letter and of the story inside; can easily be considered as: descriptive, graphic, and most likely, out of this world. ‘Simply unbelievable, for some’. Please only read, if you truly understand what’s you might encounter; then be ready to become confused, or surprised. Everything that you are about to read; is 100% real, no matter how unbelievable it might seem.
- Without further adieu -
“I always believed that time only moved forward, and no matter how much you tried; you could never interact with the past or the future. However, that theory was effectively shot out the proverbial window; the moment I woke up hundreds of years in the past.
You can probably imagine there’s not much, that’s more frightening; then waking up somewhere different, somewhere confusing, and not knowing what’s going on. Well now try to imagine waking up in the past; as a samurai, who’s sworn to protect, and must engage in bloody battles.
My life went from spending my time thinking about: public school, video games, girls, and of course my friends; to spending time in constant training, and worrying about surviving, or being strong enough to protect my new friends, and family. My original fears included: getting rejected when asking a girl out, not being able to beat that level in my favorite game, and not passing the next test in school. Now I fear ‘every’ second; for the next could be my last. So now every available second; is now spent on training, and working to grow eternally stronger.
‘Only the strongest have the slightest chance of surviving; and to protect others, one must become even stronger yet.’
Swapped Places - A New World
~ The year is 1572 and Japan greatly suffers from competing Feudal Lords or Daimyo. War is the common, and peace seems only a dream. The Japanese nation stands divided and torn apart, leaving many in a state of confusion; and wondering which Daimyo to follow. The warrior class or samurai, vowed to protect their lords; even at the cost of their own life. Any failure, could inevitably lead to one’s death; either by enemy sword, or by seppuku. If a samurai failed his lord in any way, it was honorable for him to spill his own guts; thus known as seppuku.
‘For thy failure dishonors thy Lord.’~
“Akaii… Akaiittou.. Wake up, the Lord Hiyamatsu is asking for you. Get presentable and make your way to the main hall. Don’t dawdle.”
One of the Lord Hiyamatsu’s retainers wrestled vigorously with Akaiittou’s covers, in the attempt to shake him awake. Akaiittou was in a deeper sleep than ever before and all attempts to wake him; came off as futile. His body laid there, budging not an inch. His breathe rapidly grew shallower by the second; until it almost seemed like he stopped breathing altogether.
Moment’s later, Akaiittou awoke and instantly his eyes shot wide open in shock. Where the heck was he? His surroundings were entirely different from when he went to sleep. Everything looked so new, so strange. The first thing he noticed was the rotating fan on the ceiling; he had never seen anything like it before. Looking around the room, he spotted a lot of bizarre objects; each one making him more and more confused. In left the corner of the room, he saw a desk with wheels on it, and resting upon the desk was a flat screen television. He looked at the television box and desk with eager curiosity. He’d never seen a desk with wheels before; nor had he seen a television either.
He flipped to his side to move from the bed he was resting on, and in his movement; he touched the television remote with his left hand. Immediately the tv sprung to life, and as it did; so did Akaiittou. He leapt from the bed and his hand fell to his left side; he tried to grip the hilt of his sword, but found nothing but air there. Looking down, he noticed he was a lot shorter than normal; even his hands were smaller than before. He reached up to touch his hair, and immediately noticed it was extremely short; his hair hadn’t been so short since he was a kid. Suddenly an explosion sounded from whatever show was on the tv, and Akaiittou shifted his attention back upon it; startled and confused about what was going on. As he stared at the tv, he noticed a mirror from the right corner of his eyes. Turning to look at the mirror, he saw his reflection, but what stared back at him; was not him. He raised his arms and touched his cheeks, and the reflection in the mirror did the same. What was going on here?? What happened to him?
Meanwhile, back in 1572 – February, 13th ~
After Akaiittou’s breathing stopped, the retainer that was trying to wake him up; started to panic. He figured that Akaiittou had passed away in his sleep; but something else far more complicated was taking place. Akaiittou’s consciesness was apparently transmitted into someone else; who’s body existed far in the future, and that person’s consciousness was also transferred into Akaiittou’s body.
Moments later, Kai woke up; finding himself being shaken wildly by one of Lord Hiyamatsu’s retainers. When his eyes snapped open; he laid there completely frozen from the sudden shock. Where was he? Who was shaking him awake? His eyes surveyed the room, and he only grew more and more confused. Everything was different, and far less modern. He’d only read about such a place, deep within his favorite books.
Slowly growing accustomed to his surrounding, Kai moved to sit up; only to find there was something stiff laying on the bed directly next to him. He moved his right hand over and picked up the object on his left. As his hand clasped the sheath of the blade; he quickly realized what he was holding. A katana? He asked himself, as he positioned it in front of himself. Sure enough, that is exactly what it was. But why was there a katana next to him?
“Sir, Akaiittou… Are you alright?? Akaiittou??”
Akaiittou? Who is that; Kai thought as he looked towards the strangely dressed man in front of him. While he was still completely clueless about his situation; he could easily tell the man was referring to him, but he’d never been called Akaiittou before.
“My name is Kai.. What’s going on here? Where am I?”
The retainer looked at Kai with a frustrated face; as if he thought Kai was playing a game on him. He looked as if he was going reply with an attitude; but quickly he regained his composure before speaking.
“Surely sir, you are jesting. You were honorably invited last night to rest at Lord Hiyamatsu’s castle, and now the Lord is calling upon you. Please get dressed, and make your way to the main hall. Your clothing is already prepared and resting on the table in the left corner of your chambers.”
Kai had no idea how to respond to what the retainer told him, and he slowly looked at the table in the corner. Sure enough, there was a clean stack of clothing resting upon it; though the clothing was nothing like he’d ever seen before. It looked like old-fashioned armor, from his perspective. Taking a moment to take in the fact that he now seemed to have a katana, armor, and his surroundings were so old-looking; he could only guess that he somehow found himself in ancient Japan.
“Ancient Japan? Ha, as if. This is one very elaborate dream.” He thought to himself briefly. Sure; he’d had some realistic dreams before, but this one definitely cut the cake.
“Get ahold of yourself, sir. Hurry up and get dressed; you should not leave the Lord waiting, less you wish to risk seppuku.”
Seppuku? We learned about that recently in history class, didn’t we? Kai thought. seppuku is when a samurai would thrust a sword into his front, effectively spilling out his own guts; all for the sake of his Lord.
Heck no! There is no way I’m going to die, when I’ve yet to even live. Kai thought to himself, as he quickly shifted out of his bed. He moved over to the clothing that was left for him and stood there in confusion. How the heck do you put this on? He thought. Never had he been so confused by clothing before today. He was so accustomed to a single layer; shirt, pants, shoes. But here he had multiple layers, chest armor, leggings, shoulder pads; the entire samurai get-up.
Just as he was about to speak, the retainer sighed and walked over to him.
“For such a smart warrior, you sure seem to always have trouble putting on your clothing, sir. Let me help you.”
Phew, Kai thought. If he really had to put everything on himself; he was sure to screw something up and look a total fool.
“I suppose that is alright; I am in a hurry afterall.” Kai said, in response to the retainer’s gesture of help.
Quickly, the retainer helped him get dressed and gear up; before he was lead out of his room and into the main hall, to stand before the Lord.
An Encounter Through Space and Time
Exactly five years have passed since the day everything began, and nothing has been the same since. Through much training, hardship, and battle; Kai’s skills and physical conditioning have improved by over three hundred percent.
Word of his prowess as a samurai warrior has spread far and wide; and he was officially donned with the title; ‘The Flying Dragon of the Red Blade’.
Flying Dragon, because he was famous for his abnormally swift and ferocious sword style. Red; for those who watched him fight, could only recall glimpses of the blade that flashed crimson with the blood of his enemies.
His mysterious trip through both time and space; was not the only abnormal thing to take place, here, in his new homeland.
Something sinister was already brewing behind the scenes; and his appearance in this time and place was evidently orchestrated.
Demons emerged from someplace unknown, and covered the lands in an unforseen darkness. Well, unforseen for some. A mystical force; foresaw the rise of the demons, and thus called upon warriors from various times and places in space.
Souls of the pure, the innocent, and the humble; swapped places with the souls of various others. They were all brought here to save the world, from the darkness that was to come.
MEETING WITH THE SOURCE
February 15th, 1577 ~
“Sir Akaiittou, you’ve done such a wonderful job protecting the Lord these last few years. It’s almost like you are an entirely different person; from when we first met.”
Jacob, the retainer that Kai met for the first time; five years ago, spoke with a strong air of respect hovering over his every word. He had grown to truly respect Kai, and he became one of Kai’s closest friends.
“I told you, you can refrain from being so formal. Please just call me Kai, Jacob. We are friends, not servant and master.”
Kai could never get used to being called sir, lord, or having any such honorifics added to his name. He also couldn’t get used to people calling him Akaiittou.
“I’m sorry, sir. I mean Kai.. I can’t help it.” Jacob looked embarrassed as he spoke; he was so used to calling those ranked above him, sir or lord.
Kai sighed and shook his head. No matter what he said; Jacob wouldn’t change the way he addressed him, and honestly it really didn’t bother him. He just wished people would call him Kai, over Akaiittou.
“So what made you rush in here earlier? You seemed like you were in a hurry to see me.”
Kai asked, as he turned his attention fully towards Jacob. It wasn’t like him to rush anything, unless it was absolutely important.
“Oh, that’s right. I have something for you.”
Jacob rustled through the bag on his left waist, searching for something deep within it. Once he grasped it, he smiled and pulled out a letter of some kind. The first thing Kai noticed, was the unique seal which took up half the front of the letter.
“A letter? Who’s it from?”
Jacob nodded and then shrugged as he went to hand the letter to Kai.
“I have no idea. I’ve never seen a seal like this one before, but I assume it’s someone important. Only those with great wealth and power have seals this elaborate.”
Kai took the letter and looked it over with curiosity. The envelope was normal enough, but the seal was very refined. It looked like a crest of some kind, with a dragon etched in the direct center, surrounded by a mysterious coat of arms.
“Hmmm..” Kai said, as he slipped his finger under the seal and broke it open. He flipped the envelope open, pulled out the letter, and started to read it slowly.
Five years have passed since your arrival here; in this time and place. I’m sure as you read this, your confusion has only begun to grow even further. Your purpose for being here, in this time and place; shall soon be made clear.
On the first full moon of this month, a Darkness will sweep over the land; one like no one has ever seen. You’ve been bestowed with a powerful light, which shall pierce through the dark, and save millions. Your journey has only just begun, and you are not alone.
You will find the next step of your journey; in a place where only the dead may rest.”
Kai’s eyes could barely believe what he was reading; it almost seemed like fantasy. Then again, this person knew that he’d appeared through both time and space; to a place unknown to him.
He folded the letter back up and placed it in the envelope, then looked back towards Jacob; before speaking.
“Where did you get this letter?”
Jacob replied with a confused look on his face.
“The delivery man brought it, like usual. Why?”
Kai looked a bit disappointed in the answer he was given, but he quickly changed the subject without responding to Jacob’s question.
“Get my horse ready, immediately; I have to go somewhere.”
~ 20 Minutes later ~
Kai arrived at the cemetery and casually he looked around. In the letter he received; there was a passage that read.
“You will find the next step of your journey; in a place where on the dead may rest.”
To him, the only place that could be, was the cemetery; where the dead were laid to eternal rest.
Only few minutes after arriving at the cemetery; a mysterious humming sound began to echo from seemingly all around him. He frantically spun around, trying to find the source; but he could not figure out where the sound was originating from. Seconds later, there was a large flash of bright light; so bright that it caused him to close his eyes in response. Suddenly and violently, the entire world seemed to shake and rattle, and just as quickly as it started; it suddenly stopped. Kai opened his eyes, only to find himself in an entirely new place. Yet again, confusion rushed in quickly. Where was he now?
Looking around him; all he could see was trees. He was now in a forest, some place and some time away from where he came from. What could this forest be, and what was waiting for him inside? He slipped his hand to his side and sighed in relief when he grasped the hilt of his katana.
“Thank the Lord, I still have my sword.”
As he spoke; a mysterious energy surged around the hilt of his blade, and directly into him. The energy felt familiar, and comforting; but he had no idea what it was, or where it even came from. At least not yet..
It wouldn’t be long before he found out; for his next challenge was actively searching for him at this very moment, with the sole intent to kill.
